How to play True Scale
- Look at the blue reference object. Its size is fixed.
- Drag the orange object up to make it bigger or down to make it smaller. You can also use the slider or the arrow keys.
- Press Lock in when you think the sizes match real life.
- Watch the orange object jump to its real size and see your points.
Scoring
Each of the five rounds is worth up to 100 points. A guess within 5% of the real size scores 100. After that the score drops smoothly, and a guess that is twice too big or half too small scores 0. The best possible day is 500 points.
Your result is saved on this device, so your streak and best score show up on the home page and in your stats.
Tips for a better score
- Think in steps: an adult is about 1.75 m, a door about 2 m, a bus about 4.4 m tall.
- Long things like whales and planes are measured by length, not height.
- Planets and balls are measured by diameter.
- Do not trust your first look. Small objects next to huge ones fool the eye.
True Scale questions
Is the puzzle the same for everyone?
Yes. Everyone gets the same five comparisons for the same puzzle number.
Where do the sizes come from?
We use typical published sizes, for example official heights of buildings and average sizes of animals. Living things vary, so treat animal sizes as a typical adult.
Can I replay today’s puzzle?
You can view your result again, but the score counts only once. Past puzzles are in the archive.
